Councils & Committees

A Council represents the perspective of shared interests grouped to the core tenants of ASID: Membership, Volunteering, Engagement, Public Affairs, Knowledge, and Design Practice. Councils help ASID organize committees with an intent to coordinate initiatives, share insights and support the success of committee work.

A Committee is formed within a council to represent a specified interest area and scope of work. Committees have specific goals to support the ASID strategic plan and represent the interests of larger groups of people.

Review Criteria

Each applicant can earn up to 100 points from a completed application. Identified skills and expertise for each selected committee of interest are 80% of the score and are heavily weighted in comprising the candidate scoring. This enables applicants of all ASID membership types to qualify for committee service without bias. Informational elements that are required such as education level and a statement of interest are 20% of the overall score.

Applicants can earn additional points for their base score by providing optional elements such as credentials, certifications, and previous leadership experience.  An aggregate score for the applicant will be calculated for each committee selected by the applicant. Committee selection will be based on applicants that obtain the highest scores.  In some cases, there may be more qualified applicants than positions available.  A qualified applicant may not be selected for a particular committee if all volunteer positions are filled.

To qualify for a committee position, applicants must obtain a minimum total score of 75 points.  Scores will be ranked by committee aggregate scores from highest to lowest. Some consideration for diversity within committee groupings will be applied based on experience, membership types, and other factors that cannot be scored.  Applicants will be invited to join a committee based on scoring and availability.

For Chair and Chair-Elect positions, 38 points are possible based on responses to required questions in this section and total points earned in the leadership experience section. Leadership skills, competencies, and leadership experience are weighted scores and comprise nearly 75% of the score value.

The review process will be blind. Names and key identifying information will not be shared with the jury.
